Geography :
4300
kms lenghth and 200 kms wide are the average numbers.
75.945
kms2 with a population reaching 16
Millions unhabitants with 2/3 spread in the center of the country (from the

Chile
shares borders with Bolivia, Peru and with Argentina, with which it shares a
major part of the Andes. Moreover, the highest peak is the Aconcagua reaching
6960 m on the Argentinian’s side but really close to the Chilean border. It is
often times flown over when arriving in Santiago.
There
are 3 different landscapes from East to
West : The Andes Cordillera, the Central Valleys and the Coastal
Cordillera (less elevated than the Eastern). In Chile sits the highest active
volcano in the world: Ojos Del Salado reaching 6.893m, which is the highest
point in Chile.
Chile
spreads from Latitude 17 until latitud 56 South which explains the very rich
variety of climates, from one of the most arid desert in the world to
Antarctica going through some of the most rainy areas on earth.
From North to South :
-
The Norte Grande includes the
atliplano at the border of Bolivia and salt deserts.
-
The Norte Chico where the desert
starts and where mining extractions are the main economical resources.
-
The Center boasts a mediterranean
climate with Pacific beaches, and a fruits and wine activity.
-
The South with its limpid rivers,
great lakes and volcanoes with eternal snows.
-
Patagonia with its channels,
pampas and glaciers.
- We shall not forget the various
islands that sets the country such as Easter Island and Robinson Crusoe Island.
Eventually, the Chiloe Island (the biggest of South America) is a place where
traditions remain and with churches inscribed on the World Heritage List.
There are so many other sites to
talk about but it would take days to list them but what is sure is that there
are everything for everyone’s tastes!
